Weekly Newsletter, IT with Business Outcomes, Vol 6

Hello Leaders,

We hope you have adjusted to the time change. However, it will hard to keep up with the speed at which AI is evolving. That's why we are reviewing dozens of headlines to highlight a handful that your IT leadership must act on.

1. Another AI product that has taken the Internet by storm

Manus is another AI from China. Unlike the other AI products, this is a general purpose autonomous AI agent which can perform many tasks. It combines many AI models and tools to accomplish a range of tasks like planning a travel itinerary, researching products, analyzing data, teaching a course, and developing screenplay.

While many on X were quick to point out mistakes and failures, innovations like these will shape the adoption of AI.

Given the low waitlist, getting access to Manus will take time, but you can have your teams review the use cases to learn. Explore other agent frameworks like Haystack, an OpenSource initiative with participation from AWS, NVDIA, IBM, Intel, etc.

Actions you could take

Revisit your Robotic Process Automation strategy. Agentic AI will soon replace your legacy RPA products.

2. A CURE for retrieval hallucination

Mayo Clinic, one of the top hospitals in US, came up with an approach to address retrieval hallucination. The hospital was working on a use case to extract and summarize patients’ discharge summaries from their Electronic Health Records. The purpose was not diagnosis but post-care tips. The following steps ensured that the references were real and accurate.

Step 1: Used LLM to generate the summaries.

Step 2: Split the summaries into individual facts.

Step 3: Apply clustering using representative (CURE) algorithm to match the facts back to source documents.

Actions you could take

AI is still in its early stages and requires ongoing research and experimentation. Ensure that you have a strong governance which prioritizes ethical and fair use of AI. Invest in learning and collaborate with other organizations to share lessons.
